Who are You? – Learning About You

Posted on January 1st, 2012 in Learning By Doing, Leveraging Learning, Self Directed Learning | 2 Comments »

Learning, Is It Really?

Are you the child of 3? Are you the youth of 17? Are you still your mother’s child or her caregiver? When did YOU change? If you have changed which you is you? Maybe it is time to start learning about you!

Today is the first day of the rest of your life… Who are you and what will you do with that today?

Learning Is Changing

Each “New” Day, Month, Year, event or activitiy gives you and I the chance to change. When you learn something about yourself and the world around you, you change.  Because of the change you are not the you, you were a while ago.

Does Your Personal Learning Lab Leverage Learning About You

Look at the first day of a New Year.  Is it really different than the day before?  The sun will rise and set the same as everyday here on planet Earth.  The difference is your attitude and your hope of a life improved and  greater satisfaction carries the day.  You have a new hope generated through the possibilities of changes in your choices.

You can actually speed up the entire process by learning more about yourself.  Not the ever changing you, but the you who is doing the learning.  You and I need to become learners about ourselves as learners.  This brings ourDoes Your Personal Learning Lab Leverage Learning About You hopes and dreams into the realm of reality.

Learning About You

Sure you are changing each and every day.  You are not the same any day of the week because what you learn changes who you are.

Your core elements reveal your preferences for learning.  How does your mind work?  Are you a “visual” learner or do you prefer to hear the lesson?  Are you person of action?  Do you learn by doing more than seeing or listenting?

When you learn how you learn you are prepared to know what you can do to learn more quickly each day!  Learning about you, your preferences and dreams makes your ability to change expand quickly.

There are so many barriers to becoming all we want to become.  What is stopping you or I from becoming exactly what we want to be? Is this why we are continually experiencing challenges as we change?

  1. 1. We beleive we know who we are.
  2. 2. We are kidding ourselves.
  3. 3. We do not want to face the reality of who we are.
  4. 4.  We don’t know enough about ourselves to properly plan our own learning expereinces.

Plan now to get to know yourself.  Trust you have it in you to become your best self.  Know there are those of us around you cheering on your change.  Learning about you may just be the fastest breakthorough to the new you you desire.

Your Hope of a New You in the New Year

Isn’t this really what gives us the light in the dawn of the new year?  Hope for a bright future. Hope for a dream come true. Hope for learning the best stuff for us so we can be changed by what we learn.  Will you indeed leverage you and learning about you into the new you?  You are changing.  You are learning.

Why not learn about you and how you learn so you can become the new you faster.  Learn about you so you can learn more around you and change for the better?

I hope you have the time of your life learning to change by learning about how you learn and change.

Best of success,

Do You Have Ears to Hear Life’s Lessons? George did… do you?

Posted on November 20th, 2011 in Flecks of Gold, Learning by Living, Leveraging Learning, The Teach Jim Show | 3 Comments »

George Fourie was having a bad week.

A Chevrolet Malibu involved in a rollover crash

He had missed the last three days of his life. When he woke; his mother was at his side after traveling around a 1000 km to be there. He found out he had a broken neck and some serious head injuries.

Within days his doctor looked at him and laughed.  When pressed the doctor revealed, “You are not supposed to be here.  Anybody with your head and neck injuries we normally just ignore because they die within two weeks.”  George realized he had another chance at life.

The auto accident and George’s brush with death changed everything.  He moved forward with greater purpose!  He heard what life was teaching.

After hearing this on The Teach Jim Show I asked myself … am I listening to the lessons life is trying to teach?  Being a bit more sensitive here are some of the lessons I’ve learned this week.

You and I are magnificent!

The Butterfly Circus (low res) from The Butterfly Circus.

You and I are talented!

The Dot – By Peter Reynolds

You and I can embrace how we look.

As a beauty I’m not a great star.
There are others more handsome by far,
But my face, I don’t mind it,
Because I’m behind it—
’Tis the folks in the front that I jar.
[Anthony Henderson Euwer, “My Face,” in Rhymes of Our Valley (New York: James B. Pond, 1916), 92]

We can do something about the “tough times” we face.

Rooster

Scratchings from the Little Red Hen

Said the big white rooster, “Gosh all Hemlock, things are tough,

Seems that worms are getting scarce and I cannot find enough.

What’s become of all those fat ones is a mystery to me;

There were thousands through the rainy spell, but now where can they be?”

The little red hen, who heard him, didn’t grumble or complain,

She had been through lots of dry spells, she has lived through floods of rain;

So she flew up on the grindstone and she gave her claws a whet,

And she said, “I’ve never seen a time there were no worms to get.”

She picked a new and undug spot; the earth was hard and firm.

The big white rooster jeered, “New ground! That’s no place for a worm.”

A Rhode Island Red hen

The little red hen spread her feet, she dug fast and free,

“I must go to the worms,” she said, “the worms won’t come to me.”

The Rooster vainly spent his day, through habit by the ways,

Where fat worms have passed in squads, back in the rainy days.

When nightfall found him supperless, he growled in accents rough,

“I’m as hungry as a fowl can be. Conditions sure are tough.”

He turned to the little red hen and said, “It’s worse with you,

For you’re not only hungry, but you must be tired too.

I rested while I watched for worms, so I feel fairly perk;

But how are you? Without worms too? And after all that work?”

The little red hen hopped to her perch and dropped her eyes to sleep,

And murmured, in a drowsy tone, “Young man, hear this and weep,

I’m full of worms and happy, for I’ve dined both long and well,

The worms were there, as always – but I had to dig like hell!”

Oh, here and there white roosters are still holding sales positions,

They cannot do much business now, because of poor conditions.

But as soon as things get right again, they’ll sell a hundred firms -

Meanwhile, the little red hens are out, a-gobbling up the worms.

Embrace Each Day!

Leveraging Life’s lessons into the most benefit for you and I means sharing our story and the stories of others. It means making the most out of this moment of our lives so we can enjoy the peace and joy of this time.  The little things in life become the most important.  Important messages make meaningful connections.  Thank you for ready.

Embrace each day of our lives. Do you have ears to hear life’s lessons like George did. I keep trying and hope you are too!

College, Career Planning and Future Prospectives!

Posted on March 30th, 2011 in Learning by Living, Leveraging Learning | 5 Comments »

At a recent Internet Marketer Event a parent asked. Is anybody teaching these skills (Internet Marketing) to youth? They went on to explain their son would not likely make it to college yet they wanted him to have a successful career.

I was really hit with the thought. For those exploring careers today… “When I graduate I will probably have a job that doesn’t exist today”. Think about it! Is there something YOU and I can do today?

Watch this video and you’ll see that college, career planning and the prospects for the future are not what they were AND there really is a WORLD of possibilities. It is all wide open. Which may be the problem. I’ll suggest some possible solutions in a future post. What do you suggest?

So what is the career path that can leverage THESE Skills?

Is YOUR Education Stopping YOUR Online Business Success?

Posted on December 15th, 2010 in Leveraging Learning | 18 Comments »

The education system that trained you for your job may be the very cause of your online business challenges!

Creativity and the ability to respond to the changes in the market place really are the skills needed for you and your business to have success online. It is likely your education taught you to color in the lines. It taught you to comply with the direction of you “supervisor” – the teacher. It taught you to work to their rules in their ways so you could get your reward – the grade. Consider the findings of Sir Ken Robinson as he shares what “education” has done for creativity.

We need creativity to operate a business. This is so different from the skills we were taught in our schools. Our education may not have given us the skills required for online business success. Online, you need sensitivity to the needs of your audience and the information, products and services you provided. You need to be creative in making the right match to the correct audience. You also need to get creative in the packaging of your offering to meet the needs of your customers.

You need to work smart to get the best use of your time. Every problem you face and every problem your customers face needs a creative solution better than the solutions provided by your competition.

Ever wonder what you can do to break out of the limitations of your education? Now you can apply all your creativity and unique skills in solutions. Solutions for you and your customers. You need to direct your own work and your own learning. As you do expand your experiences by the way you direct your own personal learning projects YOU and not your education pave the path to your online business success.

You and I will need to be prepared to be wrong. This attitude will will allow us to discover the creativity we need to operate your business. We indeed need to rediscover the creativity we loose as we get “educated”.

You and I need to get into our right brain. We need to approach learning in ways that are different from the way we were taught as we were educated.

You and I can take back our lives and the control of our online businesses by applying the skills of self-directed learning. We need to leverage the technology and communication tools as creatively as possible to deliver solutions for our customers. As we each take charge of our own learning we become capable of reinstating our creativity

Let’s work together to break out of our educational foundations to tackle the learning needed to build your online business success story.

The Day I Met a Buddhist Proverb on the Elevator…

Posted on July 22nd, 2010 in Learning By Doing, Learning by Living, Leveraging Learning, Teaching/Learning as Marketing | 19 Comments »

Elevator TeachSome of the best non-selling, selling I’ve witnessed. This was no 30 second elevator speech. More like a “two-minute elevator spiel” (Tom Peters, 1999). Mike Klingler shared his unique sales proposition (USP) and demonstrated his entire way of doing business in 1 minute and 17 seconds teaching in an elevator. He was not selling us on Marketing Merge, Mike Klingler or Marketing Funnel Mastery. But we were sold. Teaching Sells!

The Situation (Preparation)

Rich and Natasha were perplexed. They were at the Marketing Funnel Mastery Event in Portland Oregon. They had just launched a new product two weeks earlier (Lead Whisperer). They had learned so many things by the experience they were ready for more clarity. They was ready to learn.

During lunch that June day, the discussion centered on the need for essential input from Mike Klingler, the Marketing Funnel Mastery master.  He was sharing this expertise with event participants. He continually was adding value to the individuals in attendance but the exact information Rich and Natasha needed was just outside the instruction offered.

The Solution (Producing Results)

“When the student is ready the teacher appears.” Buddhist proverb. But in an Elevator? REALLY?

Rich and Natasha hoped to get their problem resolved that afternoon. They needed Mike’s direct input. The students were ready. Then it happened. There in the elevator, the teacher appeared. Literally!

Watch the ultimate elevator speech become an exquisite “Elevator Teach”! Then see the lessons learned and applied at our respective sites (Lead Whisperer.com and YourLeadSystemsPro.com).

Lessons learned (Profit):
1. When the student is ready, the teacher will appear (in the elevator) – Buddhist proverb.
2. Lead with value – Mike Klingler
3. Teaching sell – Ann Sieg
4. The “Elevator Teach” is effective – Teach Jim (Observation)

Leverage Learning (What I learned and applied.):
1. Principles guide practices.
2. Clarity precedes congruence.
3. Congruence provides consistency.
4. Consistency exudes competence.
5. Competence clarifies confusion.
6. Competence creates confidence.

Internet Trends for You, Me and We!

Posted on June 8th, 2010 in Experience Engineering, Learning by Living, Leveraging Learning, The Teach Jim Show | 6 Comments »

My daughter graduated from high school this last week.  Wow, the world has changed so much since our first daughter graduated 10 years ago.  The online world is an entirely different place.

It caused me to examine how will it be for my daughter when she graduates from college. Will her educational experience give her the skills she needs.  As much as I’d like to think it will, I’m about convinced her success in tomorrows world may have more to do with what she learn on her own and how she couples it with her formal training.

As I see it there are 5 trends are influencing our interactions online.  These will also play into the work world in the near future.

  • Convergence
  • Collaboration
  • Free
  • Transparent
  • Learning

As we learn to adjust to these trends we start to see the world through a different light.  That new light illuminates expanding possibilities.  What skills will the changes require? Consider the change in focus new light provides.  Do you see the vision?

If we can agree that you and me will likely work more like “We” in the coming days then we might begin now to look at models for collaboratively creating.  Listen to this episode of The Teach Jim Show.  I propose a possible way a team could collaborate in creating a meaningful & marketable product.
Maybe it will prepare you and I for the day of our collaboration around “We”.

The Rainy Day – Oh, That’s Bad! No, That’s Good!

Posted on May 23rd, 2010 in Learning by Living, Leveraging Learning | 8 Comments »

The other day it was raining and I was stuck inside.

It started raining like crazy outside. It was nice and cozy inside. I can barely hear the dripping of water outside.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

The dripping sounded different than usual. It was just outside my door.

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

My curiosity caused me to open the door to look outside and discover the overflowing gutter.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

Basement Landing Opening the door let water rush into the house from the porch.

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

The water flowed into the drain missing all the stuff on the floor.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

The puddle on the basement stair landing revealed a clogged drain.

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

We caught it before it flooded the entire basement and ruined our precious stuff.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

LadderWe had to act quickly to stop the landing from filling with water.

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

It was clear the water was coming from the overflowing gutter and the ladder was a  few feet away. It was cleared easily.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

Gutter Drain It took our attention off the water still flowing into the house from the clogged drain in the basement landing.

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

We got the tools, cleared and drained the clogged drain in the basement landing.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

Towels I tracked gunk into the house all over the place.

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

There were plenty of towels to wipe up the mess and help dry things out.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

Some of the towels were purchased yesterday. My wife was NOT Happy!

Oh, that’s bad! No, that’s good!

I apologized. She forgave me.

Oh, that’s good! No, that’s bad!

I had forgotten just what a wonderful person she is. So, I told her.

Oh, that’s good! Yeah, that is good!
